  1. Business those annual sales are AED 375,000/- and above must get VAT registered.
  2. VAT @ 5% must be applied on all business transactions from January 01, 2018 and onwards.
  3. Proper books of accounts and VAT related records must be kept in order and be maintained for at least 5 following years.
  4. VAT Return must be filed as and according to the VAT Laws applicable in UAE.
  5. Failure to above has various penalties and fines ranging from AED 1,000/- to 20,000/-

VAT stands for Value Added Tax. It is form of indirect tax applied on the consumption of most of the goods & services. It is imposed on each stage of production before the final sale and each stage in the supply chain, it is collected by the businesses on behalf of the government. It is added to the price of the product or service so ultimately it is the end user or consumer who pays VAT.
When VAT will go into effect?
VAT will go into effect by 1st January, 2018 in UAE.
What are the VAT rates?
In UAE flat rate of 5% will be applicable on goods & services which do not fall under an exempt or zero rated goods and services category.
What will be the impact of VAT on free zones?
Free zones dealing with mainlan are required to register for VAT however detailed regulations are yet to come.
What will be the impact of VAT on non-residents?
All non-residents who sells goods or services is required to pay register and pay VAT, however if anyother person is obligated for VAT on behalf of non-resident then the non-resident will be VAT exempted.
Will VAT be paid on imports and exports?
VAT will be paid on imported goods or services. Export of goods and services outside the GCC and international transportation are zero rated. Zero rated goods and services must be shown in tax returns but are exempted from VAT.
What is the frequency of VAT return filing?
Only VAT registered business can file returns. Return filing frequency is expected to be three months for majority of the businesses.

Rest of the businesses with annual turnover exceeding AED 375,000 – Last Date to apply – 31st Dec 2017.
